June 2013: We are Accepting New Patients!

June 21st is the first day of summer as well as the summer solstice. It will be the longest sun lit day this year and we hope you make the most of it. If you are looking for an excuse to get outside around lunch time, try this: take a look at your shadow outdoors at noon on the 21st, it will be your shortest 'noontime' shadow of the year ...That's worth a look!

Are your children on Summer Break?
A break from their schedule does not mean a break from proper oral hygiene. If they are off to camp or traveling over the upcoming weeks, make sure their next cleaning is scheduled ahead of time. That way we can ensure that they start summer off with a healthy smile.

Patio Season Smile
If you are interested in bringing out your beautiful, healthy smile for the endless photo opportunities of Patio Season, give us a call or request an appointment here. Now is a great time for to discuss the smile of your dreams.

Reminder:
While we understand the impulses and spontaneity that the summer can bring, please remember to notify us at least 48 hours in advance by phone if a summer activity creates the need to reschedule an appointment.

Have a great summer and Happy Fathers' Day (on the 16th) to all of the dads out there,

How To Brush & Floss

Brushing:
1. Use a soft toothbrush for thorough and gentle cleaning.

2. Hold your brush at a 45 degree angle. Use a gentle, circular massaging motion.

3. Do not "scrub" at your teeth.

4. Be sure you clean all the tooth surfaces.

5. For the inside of the front teeth, it may be easier to tilt the brush vertically.

6. For the chewing surfaces, hold the brush flat, and use a gentle motion.

Interest Rates Remain Status Quo ...But for how long?

With Bank of Canada recent rate announcement, there was also an indication our economy is stronger than the Bank projected. But weak inflation continues to signify that rates aren't ready to move yet.

In contrast, the U.S. Federal Reserve announced the U.S economy was stronger than projected, which has them considering a policy shift to end stimulus spending. And that's a signal that interest rates south of the border may go up sooner than expected.

Trial balloon or early warning? It's too early to tell. But given that the new BoC Governor Stephen Poloz begins his term on June 3rd, a Bank of Canada policy shift may be on the horizon as well. Once again, it's time to be a rate-watcher.

Dr. Nick Recommends - More Raw Foods!

Lighten Up This Summer!
As Spring gives way to Summer many fresh local foods are in season, making it the perfect time to start eating more raw foods. This means trying to build more of your meals around fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouts. Raw foods are loaded with enzymes, vitamins and nutrients.

We are not suggesting you become a 'raw foodie' or adhere to strict guidelines, rather that you incorporate more fresh raw foods into your diet. Even if half of your meals each day consist of raw food as the foundation you will have more energy, lose weight and feel great.

Five easy ways to add more raw to your diet:
  1. Have at least a serving or more of fresh fruit every day: This can include an apple, pear, orange, berries or a fresh fruit smoothie.
  2. Have multiple servings of fresh vegetables every day: Cut up carrots, celery, peppers, make a large dark leafy green salad or a fresh pressed green juice.
